Makeup Review - Revlon ColorStay Liquid Liner

3 In case you have been living under a rock, liner is HUGE this season.  Like huge, huge, huge!  A liquid liner is the hottest of the hot, so I decided to buy a bunch and try them out.  Now, to be honest, I do have a fave liquid liner, Lancome ArtLiner, it is a pen, so it is easy to use and it comes in great colors.  So I will be pretty much be comparing everything to that.Liquid liners come with three different application methods:  pen (a la Artliner), brush (MAC LiquidLast) or the officially named pointy hard thing.  Ok, maybe I just call it that, but it is a firm little stick that is pointy at the end.  Brushes can be hard to master so if you are a liquid liner newbie, I recommend a pen or a pointy hard thing.<img src="http://images.revlon.com/HTML/Images//Products/ProdDetail/P-eyeCsLiqLin-lg.jpg" alt="" width="135" height="278" align="middle" /> Revlon ColorStay Liquid Liner has a pointy hard thing, so it is great for beginners.  It is easy to apply a thick or thin line and somewhat easy to do swoops or cat eyes or whatever coolness you want.  The color I bought was Black Shimmer.  OOoooooo I was excited, as you know, I love glittery eyeliner!   Sadly, black shimmery was more shiny than shimmery.  Sigh.  No glitter love from me.  Application went very well.  I added a thin, thin line using the tip of the pointy hard thing right at the base of my lashes for a natural, uber thickening look.  It is a little too shiny to be natural, but you know what I mean.  I then thickened the line and made little wings at the end of each eye to elongate my eyes.  Easy peasy with the applicator.  Fab! I thought I was in love, until I turned on Oprah ... my internet was down (I felt like a Mennonite woman!) so I had nothing to do but catch up on some Oprah.  Today's episode was all about breast cancer, and it featured Christina Applegate and needless to say, 5 minutes in, I was a bit teary.  Not sobbing like The Notebook, just a few gentle tears.  I wiped my eye, and all of a sudden I had liquid liner all over my hand.  I wasn't crying that hard, and none of my other makeup budged (my Oscillation mascara was intact), so only the liner broke down with my sadness.  I thought ColorStay was suppose to last all day!  If it can't even make it through Oprah, that is just not going to get a Critty recommendation.  My liners need a bit more staying power than that ...Although it has a great applicator and the color was dark, the shine of the liner and it's lack of staying power make me not love it.  Stay tuned for more liquid liner reviews! 2008-10-01T02:14:06Z 459 Makeup Review - Revlon ColorStay Liquid Liner

3 I have been soooo excited to try Make Up For Ever's HD High Definition Foundation for many, many months.  I have been read rave reivews out of France, where it was a Pro only product.  It finally launched in Sephora for all of us to love!  And is it worth the wait?  Will <a href="http://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/click?id=sv9IuQnH/0E&offerid=99622.1096890&type=2&subid=0">Make Up For Ever HD Invisible Cover Foundation</a><img src="http://ad.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/show?id=sv9IuQnH/0E&bids=99622.1096890&type=2&subid=0" border="0" alt="" width="1" height="1" /> change your life?I love MUFE foundations, they do a really great job of offering great colors and textures.  My skin has been, ummm, challenging lately to say the least.  Since the begining of the year I have tried DiorSkin Forever, MAC Studio Fix Fluid, Cover FX Natural FX, L'Oreal True Match, Jane Iredale compact mineral foundation, Clinique Perfectly Real compact, MAC Mineralize Skin Finish and there are loads of others I just tried for a day or two!  Soem formulas were too light, lots had the wrong color, some was too thick in areas I don't have redness - ugh!  I was starting to think my Holy Grail Foundation did not exist.   <a href="http://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/click?id=sv9IuQnH/0E&offerid=99622.1096890&type=2&subid=0"><img src="http://www.sephora.com/assets/dyn/product/P217905/P217905_hero.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a><img src="http://ad.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/show?id=sv9IuQnH/0E&bids=99622.1096890&type=2&subid=0" border="0" alt="" width="1" height="1" /> Last week I picked up MUFE HD Foundation in Pink Porcelain at Sephora.  I color striped myself (put 3 vertical stripes along my jaw line to see what would blend in) and looked in the daylight to determine the best match.  The lightest one was the best match for me (of course, I am Miss Pasty 2008 - lol) but it was kinda pink, I was worried it was going to be too pink.  I seriously worried about it and finally took the plunge and just tried it.  And boy am I glad I did!! Here is what MUFE promises:  An oil-free medium-to-full-coverage liquid foundation that covers skin imperfections flawlessly while remaining invisible on-screen and in real life.  Creates a soft-focus effect, designed to meet the coverage concerns of those in the spotlight. It creates a complexion that looks flawless, even in bright or harsh lighting.  This Sephora-exclusive foundation comes in 25 different shades to suit all skintones. OK, first let's discuss coverage - it is perfect, it minimizes my redness but still looks like skin!!!  It goes on like a dream and does not cake, slide off or turn orange.  Just perfect skin!  Simply and utterly amazing!  I found it was easy to layer and it just looked flawless.Now, on to application.  I tried a variety of ways to get it just right.  Here are my experiments: Day One - I applied it over the <a href="http://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/click?id=sv9IuQnH/0E&offerid=99622.1027382&type=2&subid=0">Smashbox Photo Finish Light Foundation Primer</a><img src="http://ad.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/show?id=sv9IuQnH/0E&bids=99622.1027382&type=2&subid=0" border="0" alt="" width="1" height="1" /> my "go-to" primer with a damp Sonia Kashuk Blending Sponge.  The results were fabulous!  Light coverage (I needed to stipple a bit more over my cheek area) and no shine all day.Day Two - I applied it over the <a href="http://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/click?id=sv9IuQnH/0E&offerid=99622.561423&type=2&subid=0">Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer Original</a><img src="http://ad.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/show?id=sv9IuQnH/0E&bids=99622.561423&type=2&subid=0" border="0" alt="" width="1" height="1" /> (the clear one) with my Lancome Foundation Brush.  More coverage (because of the brush) and the same long-lasting, no shine finish. Day Three - I applied it without a primer and used my duo fiber stippling brush (MAC 187) and the finish was incredible!  I looked air brushed!  Unfortch, because i didn't use a primer, I was shiny by noon, but the shine almost looked good.  By the end of the day the shine was too much, but the foundation didn't turn orange or cake or crease!Day Four (and the rest of my life) - I used the <a href="http://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/click?id=sv9IuQnH/0E&offerid=99622.1027382&type=2&subid=0">Smashbox Photo Finish Light Foundation Primer</a><img src="http://ad.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/show?id=sv9IuQnH/0E&bids=99622.1027382&type=2&subid=0" border="0" alt="" width="1" height="1" /> first and then stippled the foundation with the MAC 187 brush.  One word - heaven!!!!  I applied this in the morning and at night went to the mall and 3 people working behind the cosmetic counters told me how gorgeous my skin was!!  This is definitely my Holy Grail foundation.MUFE also has primers <a href="http://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/click?id=sv9IuQnH/0E&offerid=99622.1097153&type=2&subid=0">Make Up For Ever HD Microperfecting Primer</a><img src="http://ad.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/show?id=sv9IuQnH/0E&bids=99622.1097153&type=2&subid=0" border="0" alt="" width="1" height="1" /> to go with this foundation, but I haven't tried these yet, the green one is on my list to try!  Have to use up my Smashbox primers before I venture into MUFE :) So all in all, <a href="http://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/click?id=sv9IuQnH/0E&offerid=99622.1096890&type=2&subid=0">Make Up For Ever HD Invisible Cover Foundation</a><img src="http://ad.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/show?id=sv9IuQnH/0E&bids=99622.1096890&type=2&subid=0" border="0" alt="" width="1" height="1" /> is a killer foundation.  After a year of searching, I have finally found one that does almost everything I need.  If it had sunscreen in it, it would be 100% perfect, but you can't put sunscreen in a pro product, the titanium dioxide reacts with the flash giving the face a ghosted look.  So I can definitely overlook that and with 25 shades, you are sure to find a color suitable for your skin tone.  It is simply a gorgeous, elegant foundation and I think will revolutionize the way we think about foundation! 3 I was very excited to try the new Revlon Beyond Natural Smoothing Primer, because it was time the drugstore had a good priming option. <img src="http://images.revlon.com/HTML/Images//Products/Category/P-BNatSmPrimer-lg.jpg" alt="" width="183" height="239" align="middle" /> I have been a primer girl for a very long time. As someone with an oily t-zone,  primer quickly became my friend.   I started off using Smashbox Photo Finish Primer, but I found in the summer, all of the silicones would contribute to more breakouts. When Smashbox  released their <a href="http://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/click?id=sv9IuQnH/0E&offerid=99622.1027382&type=2&subid=0">Photo Finish Light Foundation Primer</a><img src="http://ad.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/show?id=sv9IuQnH/0E&bids=99622.1027382&type=2&subid=0" border="0" alt="" width="1" height="1" /> which is oil free and great for sensitive skin, I ran to the store to pick one up.   The Light Primer has been a staple in my makeup repertoire ever since.  It has even won the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval for Best Primer.    The Revlon Beyond Natural Smoothing Primer is more like the original Smashbox Photo Finish Primer in that it contains mostly silicones to give you that smooths finish. A little bit goes a long way, so this bottle will last 5-7 months. When I first applied it, I used way too much and ended up with a sticky face. So start with a tiny amount and work your way up. I found this primer to work well,  kept my foundation in place, and did not let my oil seep through. Because of the silicones, I did start to break out a bit, so if you're sensitive to silicones, I would suggest this be a winter primer for you. There is one major flaw with this primer and that is the overwhelming fragrance that almost smells like old lady. The fragrance is so heavy that I found myself smelling it for hours after applying. Fragrance can be very allergenic and bothersome to people with sensitive skin and rosacea as well as people with regular allergies, so I don't think putting in such a highly  offensive fragrance is in the best interest of the consumers. If the fragrance was eliminated or toned down, I could really recommend this primer.I am going to continue with <a href="http://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/click?id=sv9IuQnH/0E&offerid=99622.1027382&type=2&subid=0">Smashbox Photo Finish Light Foundation Primer</a><img src="http://ad.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/show?id=sv9IuQnH/0E&bids=99622.1027382&type=2&subid=0" border="0" alt="" width="1" height="1" /> as it does not break me out, is oil free and non-fragranced. but if you are looking for a good drugstore option and can tolerate highly fragranced products and do not have skin the breaks out easily, the Revlon beyond natural smoothing primer might just be for you.Have you tried this primer? 3 Update - New Contest, <a href="../482-new-oscillation-contest-" target="_blank">deets are here</a> !  I am very happy to report, I have finally tried the new mascara, Oscillation by Lancome!!   I've been dying to try it and one of my friends ordered it for me and I finally got it on Friday!  <img src="http://www.beautifulmakeupsearch.com/storage/lancome_oscilliation.jpg?__SQUARESPACE_CACHEVERSION=1217292516911" alt="" width="115" height="250" align="middle" /> As you know, the mascara has an oscillating or spinning brush.   That sounds a lot scarier than it really is.   The oscillations are so tiny that you do not need to worry about poking your eye out. You will see in the video below that the slight movement from the wand is just enough to make sure every lash gets coated with  mascara.  I would say this mascara is more a lengthening mascara. It creates long, natural looking lashes that are never spidery. It doesn't thicken as much as I am used to, but the ability to get all of my short lashes definitely makes up for some of the thickness. If you are looking for a great lengthening mascara, Oscillation is definitely a top contender.   It not only lengthens but gives the appearance of slightly thicker lashes while looking very natural.   The best part is it does it super fast, so you girls that are always rushing out the door, can apply it quickly and have fab lashes all day.I rate it 5 of 5, it does everything I need from a mascara plus lets me sleep in 3 minutes longer in the morning.  I am in love! 3 Ok confession time, I have a genetic flaw ... I have horrible feet!  All of the poeple in our family (except my sister, she is an alien), have tons of calluses, I am talking hoof-territory!  So pedicures are a must all year round for my family!  You can tell who is related at a party by checking out the soles of their feet! I saw the PedEgg and thought there was no one this thing could keep my feet in good shape.  And it didn't, the first time I tried it, because I used it in the shower, when my feet were wet.  Nope, this is a dry-use only product!  So I tried it again with little hope and OMG this thing is awesome!!! <img src="http://ontelevision.com/images/products/detail/pedegg.jpg" alt="" width="360" height="270" align="middle" /> It is like a little cheese-grater for your feet, but instead of delish parm coming out it is a disgusting powder of your dead skin - yum!  It also comes with finely milled emery paper, so smooth over the rough edges it takes off.  I was worried the grater would be painful or cut my non callus part of my foot, but it is very gentle.  How it manages to get all that skin off and not be painful, I assume is a magical secret.  The big negative for me, and it is not that big, is that it is really not as mess-free as it says, the first time I usd it I got foot skin poweder (ewwwww) all over the floor too.  So now I sit on the side of the tube and to it.  Most of it does goe in the container, but you do get fall out. The color names make them sound much more vivid than they are, they are all dark with shimmer, kinda what you want in eyeliner. When I first tried this liner, I was gravely disappointed, after dampening my brush, I just got a faint line.  Not somthing I could <a href="212" target="_blank">tightline</a> with at all.  I am used to Laura Mercier liner, and that is all you do.  But with the pop liners, you need to totally soak your brush and then rub back and forth to get the color you want.  Even still, I used two coats to get my swatches.  The liner lasted a fair length of time on my eyes, but not on the waterline.  You can also use it dry, but you can use any other shadow like that.  Once you get the hang of it, it is easy to apply, but if you just one one really great cake liner, I would recommend <a href="http://sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P109926&shouldPaginate=true&categoryId=5809" target="_blank">Laura Mercier eyeliner</a> over the this one.  LM's creates amazing tightlining results and has more of the appearance of liquid liner.     Related Post:  <a href="212" target="_blank">Makeup Tutorial - How to Tightline </a> 2008-07-17T22:23:17Z 331 Makeup Review - Pop Beauty Liner Cake

3 I really, really, really tried to like this powder.  Really I did.  But sadly, I hated it from Day 1.  <img src="http://a1377.g.akamai.net/7/1377/8278/20080322030935/www.sephora.com/assets/dyn/product/P210400/P210400_hero.jpg" alt="" width="250" height="250" align="top" /> The <a href="http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P210400&searchString=hd%20powder" target="_blank">Make Up For Ever High Definition Microfinish Powder</a> is made of 100% silica (which is cosmetic grade, don't worry about asbestos) and honestly, you can get much cheaper silica powders from makeup supply shops.   The container is not user friendly at all, this would be a perfect product to use a refillable brush with ... but I understand it was created for makeup artists and that just wouldn't work.  But for home use, a refillable brush would be much less messy.  I think I have inhaled half of my container - not good!  This powder went EVERYWHERE!  You can see in some of my vids that it is wafting up from my dressing table right up my nose.  It left my whole dressing table covered in a fine light dusting of powder.  I know it is cosmetic grade, but I am not sure inhaling it is very good!  And my mom told me to never put white powder up my nose ;) I tried a both a powder brush and buffing it in with a kabuki, but neither one worked well.  I did not notice the it reduced the look of my imperfections, in fact, it looked like I had been sitting too long in an antique store!  It was very difficult to get just the teeny bit you need on.  Ok, we all know I am as pasty as the come ... but I could see the powder on my super white face, so I can't image how this can be a universal shade?!  I didn't try it on anyone else, so I can't day for sure but it just seems odd.  So this little guy will be going back to Sephora today and I will instead get some fun things that will make me happy.   Have your tired this powder?  Love it? 3 <img src="http://wnwbeauty.com/cosmetics/eyes/eyelinerandbrow/images/ishimmer_pencils_lrg.gif" alt="" width="179" height="104" align="middle" />  I was all prepared to love the <a href="http://wnwbeauty.com/cosmetics/eyes/eyelinerandbrow/ishimmer-eyepencil.php" target="_blank">Wet n Wild I-Shimmers</a>.  The have beautiful micro-glitter and it comes in teal and black - what's not to love?  Well the fact that they are too hard to apply is a big negative to me.  Soft and creamy there babies are not.  I know Wet n Wild knows how to make soft pencils, as their regular pencils go on nicely.  And yes, I have bcome a bit spoiled using Urban Decay 24/7 pencils, but these suckers actually hurt my eyes as I tried to apply them.  I tried to warm them up on my hand, and that worked a bit better, but not enough for me to feel comfortable.  Ouch :(Unfortch, I give the I-Shimmers two Critty thumbs down.  But I am excited about the new 3G iPhones :)Related Posts:<a href="206-walmart-haul-and-swatches"> Walmart Haul and Swatches</a>   2008-06-10T13:18:14Z 221 Makeup Review - Wet n Wild I-Shimmer

3 The <a href="http://toofaced.com/product.asp?cat_id=101&dept_id=4" target="_blank">Too Faced Liquif-Eye Shadow Collection</a> is a really interesting idea ... and I love interesting!  It is a little palette that comes with 12 shadows and a bottle of Liquid Eyeliner Transformer that you wipe the wand over the shadow to create liquid liner.  Some of the shadows are in the Too Faced line and some are Exclusive to the set, those are labelled "exclusive".  Onestepahead mentioned this kit on a previous post and I was so intrigued! <img src="http://toofaced.com/images/photo_large101.jpg" alt="" width="550" height="550" align="middle" /> Here are the swatches, the shadow is the big blob, transformed into the liner is the skinny line ... Ooh and Aah is a dark charcoal frost and a light silver frost. <img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2006/2524665633_73c1e00ded.jpg?v=0" alt="" width="396" height="346" align="middle" />  Oscar is a light peachy yellow, the next color is a deep olive, the next is a royal purples and Vixen is a dark navy. <img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2178/2524665597_fb484df956.jpg?v=0" alt="" width="500" height="254" align="middle" /> The next color is a bright turquoise with silver shimmer, Full Frontal is a warm brown with gold shimmer, Boy Toy is a bright pink with silver shimmer and Steel Magnolias is a bright yellowy/lime green. <img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3071/2525486524_f92e69ddff.jpg?v=0" alt="" width="500" height="244" align="middle" /> Fantasy Island is a cool green with silver shimmer and the last color is a matte charocal. <img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3129/2524665673_d4d654cfe1.jpg?v=0" alt="" width="500" height="378" align="middle" /> These shadows apply really nicely and you can make some pretty color combinations.  The Liquid Eyeliner Transformer has a firm tip, not a brush, so it is really easy to apply, even for newbies.  The colors are softer than traditional liquid liners so the line isn't as harsh.  I find the best way to get the color on the wand, is to roll it in the shadow.  Once you are finished applying, just wipe the wand on a tissue to remove all the product (the tip will be stained, it's ok) and you are done! This is a really versatile kit, especially if you are travelling, everything you need is in one little place.  There aren't a lot of neutral shadows, so this is for the bright, color-loving girls.  I really like the Too Faced Shadows and I look forward to adding more to my collection in the near future ...Have your tried this kit?  Do you like Too Faced shadows? 2008-05-26T15:45:20Z 180 Too Faced Liquif-Eye Shadow Collection Review
