Millions of people around the world suffer from facial redness and rosacea and I am super lucky to be part of this group. Ok, maybe not super lucky at all, but I was trying to put a positive spin on it. It's no fun having red blotchy skin :-( but thankfully we have makeup!!
There are prescriptions creams and medications and dermatological procedures like Intense Pulsed Light and laser therapy, but I am not going to get into that here. This is about how to cover up facial redness and stage one rosacea.
Learn what is triggering your skin and STOP using it. I know you wil cry about no red wine, but seriously stop it, it is onlymaking the condition worse. What's worse, white wine or a huge bulbous nose? Thought so.
Use a moisturizer for sensitive, red skin. Some even come with a mild green tint to minimize your redness. I like Eucerin, Clinique and La Roche Posay personally, but everyone is different. Use what works for you.
Apply primer if you have oily or combination skin so your makeup lasts all day. I like Smashbox Light Photo Finish Primer because it is oil-free and good for sensitive skin.
Use a yellow concealer first to counteract the redness. I like Benefit Your Bluffing concealer or any other oil-free yellow toned concealer you like. Check out Physician's Formula, they have a wide variety. Green concealers can give you a weird greenish cast which is why most people now recommend yellow. Green is excellent if you are auditioning for Wicked.
Apply a buildable medium coverage foundation all over your face. Go back over the red areas that are still visible. By using a buildable foundation, you are only getting the full coverage in the areas you need it, instead of all over your face, which can create a mask like look. Yay for buildable foundaiton. I am using MAC Studio Fix Fluid, but you use whatever you love.
If you still have some red peaking through, apply a powder foundation overtop of the red areas with a sponge or a kabuki brush. Dust all over the rest of your face.
Use a bronzer instead of a blush, the blush will just bring out the redness again. Try to use a matte bronzer, or one with a subtle shimmer. Too much shimmer will emphasis the texture of your skin tone. If you want to add some shimmer to your face, add it along the tops of your cheekbones and on your eyes.
Your face won't be perfect, but it will be much, much better and probably no one will notice but you. And stay far, far away from the magnifiying mirror.
Here's the video of my scary red face, and believe me, my face was much redder and upset first thing that morning:
Do you have rosacea or redness? What are your tips?
