During a heat wave (and we are in the start of one here), nothing will make you look more like a hot mess than your eye makeup smudging and smearing all ovah your face. Never a good look. Never. So in order to keep your self looking like the respectable girl you are, here are some tips for looking cool and crisp (is that the opposite of hot mess? I dunno) this summer.
I know, I am hardly one for dishing this advice out, but I spend most of my time indoors in my nice little bubble. But seriously, if you are going outside and it is h-o-t, wear less makeup. A sweep of gold shadow will have you looking summer in 3.5 seconds. A heat wave is NOT the time for a smoky eye.
I have been trying lots of mascaras in the past few months and I like water-resistant ones because they stay on if you have PMS and watch a sappy movie and they don't budge in humidity. WaterPROOF mascaras can be hard on your lashes, but if you gotta go that way, then do it. My fave water-resistant mascaras are Cover Girl Lash Blast (normal one, not waterpoof one) and Clinique Lash Power. Lash Power was actually developed in Asia to deal with their extreme humidity.
If you are gonna wear shadow, invest in a eye primer like UD Primer Potion, Too Faced Shadow Insurance or L'Oreal Decrese. They contain silicones to create a barrier between the oils in your skin and the shadow so it doesn't break down.
If you are going to wear eyeliner, make sure it is waterproof. And to make it extra secure, use a bit of primer on the bottom lash line before you apply it. You can get waterproof liners at the departmetn stores and at the drug stores. My personal fave is UD 24/7 Pencils.
If you are gonna do a shadow, make sure it is a long wearing one. The bestest in the Westest that I have found is the Benefit Cream Creaseless Shadow/Liners and they have plenty of neutral colors for a pretty look. I do wear primer underneath these because I am paranoid about creasing. If you are wearing primer MAC, UD, NYX (cheap!), Stila, NARS and the like should be fine. At the drugstore, Revlon Colorstay aren't bad, but I haven't had much luck with them.
Instead of using an eye cream in summer months, switch to eye gel which has a much lighter texture and won't crease your concealer.
Ok, so that should keep your eyes nice and fresh this summer ... tomorrow's topic? Summer Lips!
How do you keep your eyes looking good in the summer?
I tend to keep it very basic in the H-O-T monthes.....a couple sweeps of a shmmery e/s (usally light colors like gold, bronze, lt. pink, lt. green), little long wearing eyeliner & mascara!!! Good to go............
