How to Cover Under Eye Circles with Concealer

I am not sporting a lot of makeup today, but I am sporting some undereye circles, so I thought I would do a little picture tutorial about how I cover under eye circles with an illuminating concealer.

In this tutorial, I am using the Dior SkinFlash Radiance Booster Pen in 002 Candle Light.  Lots of companies now make illuminating concealers including this one from Boots No 7 available at Target and CVS.  I love illuminating concealers because they add such a tiny bit of color so they don't look heavy and won't cake.  That add illumination so that the light bounces off your dark areas, creating the optical illusion that you don't have any dark areas or imprefections ... basically, it's magic!!

Here is my before ... the circles are not too bad today, but not great, the flash is washing them out a bit.  Gross I have an eyelash in the corner of my eye - eeeeew!

I have put the concealer in the circle and under my lash line, both places that are dark.

I tap the concealer into my skin with my ring finger - like the blue polish?  It's from the summer OPI collection ...

I add concealer to the inner corner of my eye and also tap it in.

I add more to the outer corner of my eye, people are often red or discolored there, I tap that in too.

I add (too much!) to under my brow bone to optically lift the brow area.  Guess what?  I tap it in!  Don't add as much as I did, concealer in your brows is not a good look!

And here is the after with one eye done, that way you can really see the difference.

Notice under the eye looks a lot better, but not heavily made up.  The inner corner is much brighter.  The outer corner looks smooth and even.  The brow area looks lighter and better and more polished.

This whole concealing thing takes me about 60 seconds for both eyes.  With the illuminating concealers you don't have to blend, blend, blend.  And that saves time!  You can apply them over or under foundation, I prefer over.  They also won't crease into your fine lines.  They are also perfect for your nasal labial folds (i.e. the puppet lines).  Anywhere you have unwanted darkness.

What are your favorite concealers?  What are your concealing secrets?

I don't know if I am doing something wrong, but concealer never looks good on me. I may have to try an illuminating one. I can still always see that dark color underneath my eye.

An illuminating one *should* work, try it in the store first, but if you still have a lot of blue coming through, try a peach shade first, then your foundation. Laura Mercier is good for dark circles ... and Clarins has a peachy, illuminating one.
